When is UMF?

Saturday, April 8, 2006, the same weekend as the Texas Relays. Gates open at 11am, music starts at 12 (Noon) and continues until 10pm. Local and regional acts perform until approximately 4pm followed by national talent. Chaka Khan is scheduled to take the stage around 8:30pm.

Where is Auditorium Shores?

On the banks of Town Lake, just west of the First Street Bridge, Auditorium Shores is a place bustling with activity that serves as an outdoor concert venue with an especially busy event schedule; a place to catch the fireworks on the Fourth of July, and the hub of Austin's most popular hike-and-bike trail. Who's performing at UMF?

We have a full line-up planned for the day! From Noon-4pm, the stages will feature some of the best in local and regional jazz, R&B and hip hop. Starting at approximately 4pm, the line up will feature Michael Henderson and the members of the Bass Players Ball; which is comprised of Ray Parker, Jr, Cherelle and Alexander O'Neal, George Johnson of the Brothers Johnson, the Calloway Brothers of Midnight Starr, Rodney "Sir Nose" Trotter of Parliament Funkadelic and Adina Howard.

Also performing - R&B star Ray J. Opening for Ray J will be the duo JBC. Hosting the main stage will be former Def Comedy Jam host - Joe Torry!

In addition to the national talent, UMF will feature local and regional peformances from groups such as All U Need, Les and the Funk Mob and LaKrea Clark.

How can I perform at UMF?

We are no longer accepting applications to perform at UMF for 2006. Your best bet to apply for a slot for 2007 is to join our elist to be notified when we will begin accepting applications in the Fall of 2006.

What's included for the ticket price?

Each ticket provides 11 hours of in-and-out access to all of the festival grounds, including the music stages, the various sponsor tents and food and arts and crafts vendors.

All ticket holders will be required to exchange their ticket at the gate for wristband in order to be allowed re-entry. Wristbands are non-exchangeable and cannot be replaced. Wristbands must be attached and in original condition for re-entry into the park. You must pass through security each time you enter UMF.

If you have not purchased your ticket yet we suggest you don’t wait and do so now!

Is there reserved seating?

No. Auditorium Shores is a beautiful outdoor park overlooking Town Lake and downtown Austin. You are encouraged to bring your lawn chairs and blankets for your seating comfort.

Is there special pricing for kids?

It wouldn't be a "family-friendly" festival if we didn't think of the little ones! All kids 12 and under get in FREE when accompanied by an adult!

Will there be activities for kids?

The Dell Family Park and YouthINTERACTIVE Challenge Zone will make sure your child is having as much fun as you! Visit the Dell Family Park page for a complete run down of events and activities scheduled to take place. PLEASE NOTE that the Family Park and YouthINTERACTIVE Challenge Zone will close at 6pm.

Additionally, the Family Park features the Dell Tech Show tent which will have all of the latest tech toys and consumer products that Dell offers; the YouthINTERACTIVE Challenge Zone and the Xbox 360 NBA and MLB 2K6 Tournaments - and much more!

Where should I book my hotel?

There are approximately 20 hotels located in the central downtown Austin area. Visit our hotels page to make sure you get a room close to where the action is!

Where can I park?

There is EXTREMELY limited parking available within walking distance of the Shores. We STRONGLY encourage you to park away from downtown and ride the Starlight ‘Dillo FREE to the Urban Music Festival. If your main objective this weekend is to take in the track and field events at UT and then come down to UMF after that - there are numerous parking garages and options for parking around the UT Campus. Visit the parking page for shuttle times and locations.

Will there be food for sale? What about arts and crafts?

The Central Park Marketplace - like that "other" Central Park - will serve as the cultural heartbeat of the UMF experience where you will enjoy shopping among the various vendors in Central Park. This unique marketplace will serve as an eclectic oasis of good food, clothing, jewelry, and crafts. What safey and security measures are in place?

UMF is a family-friendly event and we have made preparations to create a safe and secure environment at Auditorium Shores. On-site security will be provided by the Parks & Recreation Dept Police.

Emergency medical staff and first aid stations will also be available on site for any medical emergencies that may arise.

What items are prohibited?

All bags entering the UMF grounds will be searched. Please do your part to keep the entrance line short and leave large bags at home. The following items will not be allowed on the grounds:

  • Alcohol (alcohol will be sold at UMF)
  • Bicycles on the UMF grounds (bike racks are available at the entrance)
  • Carts
  • Explosives
  • Fireworks
  • Food or beverages, except for factory-sealed water bottles, limit 2 per person
  • Framed backpacks
  • Glass containers
  • Coolers
  • All illegal substances
  • No unauthorized vendors will be allowed entry
  • Large chains or spiked jewelry
  • Large umbrellas
  • Non-collapsible chairs
  • Pets (except service dogs)
  • Professional audio recording equipment (recordings may not be commercially distributed)
  • Professional still camera equipment (no tripods, big zooms, or commercial use rigs) with the exception of prior credentialed media.
  • Skateboards or scooters
  • Tents
  • Video equipment; no video recording will be allowed
  • Weapons of any kind

What am I allowed to bring?

You may bring in the following items:

  • Baby Strollers
  • Binoculars
  • Blankets
  • Factory-sealed water bottles—limit 2 per patron
  • Non-professional camera equipment
  • Personal recording devices in designated areas only
  • Portable/collapsible chairs in designated areas only
  • Umbrellas (may not be more than 6-ft high and 4-ft. wide)

What if it rains?

Urban Music Festival is a rain or shine event. but may be cancelled in the event there is severe lightning, which may be a safety issue. In the event of inclement weather, please log onto the website at www.urbanmusicfest.com or call the info line at 512 314 5433 for the latest updates on UMF.

Where is the closest ATM?

There will be 2 ATM's located inside the festival grounds next to the main gate. Please note that the onsite ATM fees will be slightly higher than usual because of the convenience factor.

Is there smoking allowed?

Auditorium Shores is an outdoor venue and therefore smoking is allowed. However - smoke at your own risk if your smoke is getting all over Ray-Ray's brand new matching linen suit short set that he just purchased especially for UMF.

Is there a Designated Driver Program?

There is no Designated Driver Program in place. However, if you feel you are not able to drive, please notify any person wearing a volunteer tshirt and we will escort you the gate and call Austin Cab Company (the Official Cab Company of UMF) to get you back to your home or hotel safely.

Is there a Lost and Found location?

Before heading out to UMF, invest in a Sharpie and label your goods like you are headed to summer camp! To aid us in returning items to you quickly – a mobile number is best. The Lost & Found Tent will be located near the entrance gate.

After the festival, call us at 512 314 5433 to inquire about lost items. Valuables will be held until May 8 th, 2006 and donated to a local non-profit after that date. Urban Life Group is not liable for any unclaimed items.

For your child's safety, please stop by the Seton Safe Kids Zone located at the front of the Shores near the entrance gate to be issued matching wrist bands which will allow us to quickly identify your child and return them to you safely should you become separated.

Is there assitance for people with special needs

Auditorium shores is wheelchair-accessible. However, due to the large size and natural terrain it can be difficult to maneuver a wheelchair across the park.

Please note that UMF will not provide personal care, golf cart rides, or push service. Please bring attendants if needed. We are willing to accommodate your special needs as best we can - with sufficient advanced notice. Send us an email detailing your request and we'll do our best to accommodate you.
